9月も半ばを過ぎて、日が短くなってきましたね。少し涼しくなりましたが、最近は雨が多いので、本を読んだりアニメを見たりして過ごしています。みなさんはどうお過ごしですか？

今日は日本で大ヒットしている映画「ちいかわ」と今期のアニメについて書こうと思います。
Today, I would like to write about the movie “Chiikawa,” which is a huge hit in Japan, and this season’s anime.
ちいかわ
「ちいかわ」は、今、日本にいて「ちいかわ」のイラストやグッズを見ない日はないと言っていいほど人気のある作品です。日本だけでなく、韓国、中国、台湾などの東アジアの国でも大人気です。もともとX(twitter)に投稿されていたナガノ氏によるマンガで、テレビアニメになり、2026年には映画が公開されました。
“Chiikawa” is a work so popular now that there is no day you don’t see Chiikawa illustrations or merchandise while being in Japan. It is loved not only in Japan, but also in East Asian countries such as South Korea, China, and Taiwan. It was originally a manga by Nagano posted on X (Twitter), then a TV anime was broadcast, and a movie was released in July 2026.
ナガノ氏によると「ちいかわ」は「なんか小さくてかわいいやつ」だそうです。
ちいかわ達はハムスターのような小さくてかわいい生き物です。こわがりですぐ泣く「ちいかわ」、向上心の強い「ハチワレ」、いつも明るく自由な「うさぎ」がメインのキャラクターです。ちいかわ達は何か食べたり、遊んだり、働いたり、「でかつよ」とよばれるモンスターと戦ったりしています。「でかつよ」は「でかくて強いやつ」です。
According to Nagano, “Chiikawa” means “Something small and cute.”
Chiikawa and their friends are small, cute creatures like hamsters. The main characters are “Chiikawa,” who is easily scared and cries right away, “Hachiware,” who has a strong desire to improve, and “Usagi,” who is always cheerful and free-spirited. It is a story where Chiikawa and their friends eat something, play, work, and fight monsters called “Dekatsuyo.” “Dekatsuyo” means “Big and strong ones.”
ちいかわ達は、どこかから食べ物が湧いてくる世界で生きています。でも、ちょっといいものを食べたかったり、趣味のものがほしいときには、「労働」をして報酬を得ます。工場や草むしり、「討伐」とよばれるモンスターハントなどの単発の労働をしています。「討伐」は大変危険な仕事です。また、仕事の検定試験もあり、試験に向けて勉強しています。
Chiikawa and their friends live in a world where food springs up from somewhere. However, when they want to eat something a little nice or want things for their hobbies, they do “labor” and earn rewards. They do one-off jobs such as working in factories, weeding, and monster hunting called “subjugation.” “Subjugation” is a very dangerous job. Also, there are certification exams for work, and they study for the exams.
かわいい絵で一見ほのぼのとしていますが、労働し、検定試験のために勉強し、ときどき「でかつよ」に襲われます。不思議な事件にも巻き込まれたり、なかなか苛酷で不穏な世界です。
Although it looks like a gentle and warm story at first glance with its cute drawings, they work, study for certification exams, and are sometimes attacked by “Dekatsuyo.” They also get involved in mysterious incidents, making it a world with quite a harsh and unsettling atmosphere.
そんな中、ちいかわ達は友だちとの時間を大切にして生きています。「おいしいね」「楽しいね」「いいね」という瞬間を楽しみ、友だちがつらいとき「どうしたらいいだろう」と悩みます。ちいかわは弱くて怖がりだけど、友だちのためなら勇気を持って戦います。
苛酷な世界の中、友だちを思いやり、その時その時を懸命に生きているちいかわ達に、多くの人がつかまれています。
In all that, Chiikawa and their friends live valuing their time with friends. They enjoy moments like “This is delicious,” “This is fun,” and “This is nice,” and when a friend is having a hard time, they worry, “What should I do?” Chiikawa is weak and easily scared, but for the sake of friends, Chiikawa fights with courage.
In a harsh world, many people are captivated by Chiikawa and their friends, who care for their friends and live hard in each and every moment.
労働 / Labor
時間や体力を提供して収入を得る行為です。主に法律や制度に関する話で使われます。辛いものであるというニュアンスがあり、ポジティブな文脈ではあまり使いません。ちいかわの世界では、「労働」という言葉がよく使われています。
This is the act of providing time or physical strength to gain income. It is mainly used when talking about laws or systems. It has a nuance of being tough, and is not often used in positive contexts. In the world of Chiikawa, the word “labor” (労働) is often used.
長時間労働は避けなければならない。
Long hours of labor must be avoided.
労働条件の改善について会社と協議する。
Discuss with the company about improving labor conditions.

仕事 / Work, Job
一般的に会話では「労働」よりも「仕事」を使います。ポジティブな文脈でも使うことができます。仕事内での個別のタスクや、対価のない作業にも使うことができます。
In general conversations, “work” (仕事) is used more than “labor” (労働). It can also be used in positive contexts. It can be used for tasks within work, or for things without monetary reward.
〇彼はクリエイティブな仕事をしている。
He does creative work.
〇この仕事が終わったら、田中さんの仕事を手伝って。
When this work is finished, please help with Tanaka’s work.
〇家事も立派な仕事です。
Housework is also a fine job.
不穏な / Unsettling, Ominous
何か悪いことがおきそうな雰囲気がある。

映画「ちいかわ 人魚の島のひみつ」
“Chiikawa: Secret of the Mermaid Island”
この映画は、ちいかわ達が「討伐」の募集を見ることから始まります。
The movie begins with Chiikawa and their friends seeing a recruitment notice for a “subjugation.”
「島で討伐が成功すれば100倍の報酬」
“If the subjugation is successful on a certain island, you can get 100 times the reward.”
怪しい募集ですが、ちいかわ達はフェリーでその島へと向かいます。
島の歓迎を受けたちいかわ達は、島を襲う人魚、セイレーンを討伐してほしいと頼まれます。
ちいかわ達は島のこと、セイレーンのこと、衝撃的な事情を知ります。
It is a suspicious notice, but Chiikawa and their friends head to that island by ferry.
They are welcomed and asked to subjugate the Siren, a mermaid attacking the island.
They learn about the island, about the Siren, and about shocking circumstances.
「これって本当に正しいんだよね？」
この映画は簡単に善悪で割り切れない重いテーマを投げかけます。
私はちいかわの選択に「そうだよね」と思いました。
ちいかわは言葉を話しませんが、表情と声で多くのことを伝えています。ちいかわがはっきりと言葉にしないことで、見ている人が想像する余白を大きく残しています。
一見子ども向けのかわいいアニメですが、大人が見ても十分楽しめます。
“Is this really the right thing to do?”
This movie presents a heavy theme that cannot easily be split into good and evil.
Regarding Chiikawa’s choice, I thought, “That’s so true.”
Chiikawa does not speak words, but conveys many things through facial expressions and voice. By not stating things clearly, it is a work where the margin for viewers to imagine becomes large.
At first glance, it is a cute anime for children, but adults can also fully enjoy it.
今期のアニメ
今期はいいアニメが多いと思いました。特によかったのが、「天幕のジャードゥーガル」「さよならララ」です。
I thought there were many good anime this season. What I thought was especially good were “A Witch in Mongolia (Tenmaku no Jaadurghar)” and “Goodbye Lara (Sayonara Lala).”
天幕のジャードゥーガル / A Witch in Mongolia
13世紀にモンゴルに征服されたペルシアの都市の少女、シタラがモンゴルに復讐を誓う話です。絵がきれいで、ストーリーもよかったです。一言で言うと、オープニングの歌詞にあるとおり「私はここでは笑えない」という話です。シーズン１が終わりましたが、シーズン２が待ちきれません。
It is a story about Sitara, a girl from a Persian city conquered by the Mongols in the 13th century, who vows revenge against the Mongols. The art was beautiful, and the story was also good. In a word, as the opening lyrics say, it is a story of “I cannot laugh here.” Season 1 has ended, but I cannot wait for Season 2.
さよならララ / Goodbye Lara
現代の「人魚姫」です。泡になってしまった人魚のプリンセスが身体を取り戻し、「本当の愛」を探すために現代の日本に現れます。最初「滋賀県に人魚？」と思いましたが、とてもいい話でした。滋賀県に行きたくなりました。この作品も絵がきれいでアニメのよさがつまっています。昔のジブリの作品のようななつかしさを感じました。エピソード１２で完結してるので、気楽に見ることができます。
完結する：(物語などが)完全に終わる。
It is a modern “Little Mermaid.” A mermaid princess who turned into foam regains her body and appears in modern Japan to search for “true love.” At first, I thought, “A mermaid in Shiga Prefecture?”, but it was a very good story. This work also has beautiful art and is packed with the goodness of anime. I felt a sense of nostalgia like old Ghibli works. Since it finishes in Episode 12, you can watch it comfortably.
