大阪万博についての記事の続きです。ここではEARTH MART というパビリオンを紹介します。
EARTH MART 食のパビリオン
大阪万博にはたくさんのパビリオンがありますが、並んで入るパビリオンと予約しないと入れないパビリオンがあります。早めに入場券を買うと、予約が必要なパビリオンに申し込むことができます。ただし、予約は抽選です。人気のあるパビリオンは、なかなか当たりません。でも、今回、EARTH MARTというパビリオンに当選しました。とてもうれしいです。
アースマートのテーマは「食を通じて、いのちを考える」です。
いろいろな展示がありました。保存食や魚のオブジェがとてもきれいです。
これは卵のオブジェです。一人の日本人が一生のうちに食べる卵、2万8千個の卵をオブジェにしています。すごいですね。
かごの中の商品をはかりにのせると、クイズが出てきます。
When you place the items from the basket on the scale, a quiz will appear.
コーヒーをのせると「140L 何の数字か考えてみよう」というクイズが出てきます。
わかりますか？
答えは「一杯のコーヒーのために使われる水の量」です。
コーヒーを作るために、たくさんの量の水が使われるんですね。
When you place coffee on the scale, a quiz will appear that says, “140L. Think about what this number represents.”
Do you know the answer?
The answer is “the amount of water used to make one cup of coffee.”
A lot of water is used to make just one cup of coffee.
水のボトルをのせると「水道水をそのまま安全に飲める国の数」がわかります。
何カ国だと思いますか。
答えは12カ国です。 少ないですね。
ほとんどの国に水道はありますが、国の全ての地域で安全に水道水が飲める国は少ないようです。
When you place a water bottle on the scale, you will learn “the number of countries where tap water is safe to drink as is.”
How many countries do you think there are?
The answer is 12 countries. That’s surprisingly few.
While most countries have water supply systems, it seems that few countries have tap water that is safe to drink in all regions.
他には「一匹のミツバチが一生のうちに集めるハチミツの量」などのクイズがありました。
どのくらいだと思いますか？
たった５gです。 とても少ないですね。
小さなミツバチが一生懸命に運んでいるハチミツ。大事に食べないといけないと思いました。
There were other quizzes, such as “the amount of honey a single bee collects in its lifetime.”
How much do you think it is?
It’s just 5 grams. That’s very little.
The honey that the little bees work so hard to collect made me think that we should cherish it more.
いろいろな国のレシートとか。
まだ実用化されていませんが、砕けたお米を利用した再生米とか。
日本人が使ってきた食材についての説明などが展示されています。
再生米 (Regenerated rice): A new staple food created by molding freeze-milled ingredients and rice flour to recreate rice. It was created through a joint project between Nichirei Foods, the Hidemi Furukawa lab at Yamagata Univ, and EARTH MART.
最後に大きなテーブルをみんなで囲んで、プロジェクションマッピングを見ます。
「同じテーブルを囲むだけで 何だかみんなが一つになる。・・・それが、食の力」
「食べるとは・・・地球という食卓を囲んでいっしょに生きること」
素敵なメッセージですね。
Finally, we all gathered around a large table and watched a projection mapping show on it.
“By coming together around the same table, somehow, we all become one. … That is the power of food.”
“To eat is …to gather at Earth’s table and live together.”
What a wonderful message.
カードとお米のキャラメルをもらいました。
25年後、2050年にこのカードを見せると、このパビリオンでつけた梅干しがもらえます。タイムカプセルみたいで楽しみです。キャラメルは、あのグリコの、一粒300メートルのグリコのキャラメルです。
I received a card and a rice caramel.
In 25 years, 2050, if I show this card, I will receive some umeboshi (pickled plums) that were pickled in this pavilion. It’s like a time capsule, and I’m looking forward to it. The caramel is from Glico. That is the caramel, “300 meters per piece.”
アースマートを出ると、外は暗くなっていました。
左上から、アゼルバイジャン、モナコ、スペイン、サウジアラビア、オーストラリア、バーラト（インド）、夜のリングです。夜のパビリオンとリング、きれいな夜景ですね。
ドイツ、大阪市、フランスとアメリカ、カナダ、UAE、ウーマンズパビリオン、そして夜のリングです。
大満足の一日でした。大阪のホテルに泊まって、翌日は朝から楽しみます。
