海の日　～ Marine Day ～

　昨日きのうの夜よるに雨あめがふったので、今日きょうは少すこしすずしくなりました。
　7月しちがつの第三月曜日だいさんげつようびは、海うみの日ひという祝日しゅくじつです。1996年ねんに制定せいていされました。新あたらしい祝日しゅくじつです。

　It rained last night, so today is a bit cooler. The third Monday of July is Marine Day, a national holiday established in 1996. It’s a relatively new holiday.

海の日

　海うみの日ひは「海うみの恩恵おんけいに感謝かんしゃするとともに、海洋国かいようこく日本にほんの繁栄はんえいを願ねがう」日ひです。
　簡単かんたんに言いうと、「海うみの恵めぐみに感謝かんしゃし、海うみに囲かこまれた国くに、日本にほんが繁栄はんえいすることを願ねがう」日ひです。

　Marine Day is a day to “express gratitude for the blessings of the sea and to pray for the prosperity of Japan as an ocean country.” In simpler terms, it’s a day to appreciate the sea’s bounty and wish for the wealth of Japan, which is surrounded by the sea.　


　ご存ぞんじの通とおり、日本にほんは南北なんぼくに長ながい国くにです。北海道ほっかいどうと沖縄おきなわでは、気候きこうが全然ぜんぜん違ちがいます。海うみの雰囲気ふんいきも違ちがいます。
　
　As you know, Japan is a long country stretching from north to south. The climate varies greatly between Hokkaido and Okinawa, and so does the atmosphere of the sea.


　北海道ほっかいどうは日本にほんの一番いちばん北きたにあります。夏なつは涼すずしく、冬ふゆは寒さむさの厳きびしい地域ちいきです。北海道ほっかいどうの海うみと言いえば、カニやウニ、イクラなどの海産物かいさんぶつですね。本当ほんとうにおいしい。北海道ほっかいどうでは、2月にがつの中頃なかごろ、流氷りゅうひょうを見みることができるところもあります。流氷りゅうひょうとは、海上かいじょうにできる氷こおりのことです。北海道ほっかいどうからさらに北きたの海うみから流ながれてきます。

　Hokkaido is located in the far north of Japan. Summers are cool, and winters are freezing. When you think of Hokkaido’s sea, you think of seafood like crabs, sea urchins, and salmon roe. They’re truly delicious. In mid-February, you can see drift ice, which forms on the sea and drifts down from the northern seas.

　東京周辺とうきょうしゅうへんの海うみは人ひとが多おおすぎて、夏なつにはあまり行いきたくありませんが、学生時代がくせいじだいによくバーベキューをしに行いきました。下したの写真しゃしんは、神奈川県かながわけんの海うみです。有名ゆうめいな観光地かんこうち、鎌倉かまくらのすぐ近ちかくです。

　The sea around Tokyo is usually too crowded, so I don’t visit much in the summer, but during my student days, I often went there for barbecues with my friends. The following picture is of the sea in Kanagawa. It is close to Kamakura, a famous tourist spot.

　
　日本にほん海側かいがわは長ながいので、いろんな海岸かいがんがありますが、岩いわがちな海岸かいがんが多おおいい印象いんしょうです。日本にほん海側かいがわの地域ちいきも、海産物かいさんぶつが豊富ほうふです。とにかくすしがおいしい地域ちいきです。

　The Sea of Japan coast has many rocky beaches. This region is also rich in seafood and is known for its delicious sushi.

　そして、なんと言いっても沖縄おきなわです。白しろい砂浜すなはまと青あおい海うみが本当ほんとうに美うつくしい。去年きょねん、離島りとうの石垣島いしがきじまに行いってきました。いいところでした。海うみが透明とうめいで美うつくしく、見みているだけでリフレッシュできます。一週間いっしゅうかんくらい何なにもせずに離島りとうの海うみを見みて過すごしたいと、いつも思おもいます。

　And, of course, there’s Okinawa. The white sandy beaches and blue seas are stunning. I visited Ishigaki Island, one of the remote islands, last year. It was wonderful. The sea was clear and beautiful, just looking at it was refreshing. I always dream of spending a week doing nothing but gazing at the sea on a remote island.

　このボートはグラスボートと言いいます。ボートの底そこのグラスから、海うみの中なかを見みることができます。下したの写真しゃしんは、グラスボートから撮とりました。魚さかなやサンゴだけでなく、ウミガメも見みることができました。

　This boat is called a glass boat. You can see the underwater through the glass bottom of the boat. The picture below was taken from the glass boat. We could see fish, corals, and even sea turtles.
